About HWF
It seems that most people usually ask us why we decided to raise
alpacas? And we assure them that it was not an overnight decision! .We
had often discussed adding livestock to our farm family but what animal
would fit with our lifestyle and philosophies and still generate
income? After numerous discussions, many questions, lots of research
and months of deliberation our first alpacas arrived at the farm in
October 2004. It did not take them long to establish their own very
important niche in our day to day routine!
We feel very fortunate to be the dedicated “caretakers” of these
steep forested hillsides and windy ridge tops. Raising alpacas has
naturally fit with the responsible and conscientious attention that we
give to our woodlands, our gardens and fields, and all the animal
residents of Hickory Wind Farm.
The “Other Residents” of Hickory Wind Farm
Josey (aka Josephine, Jo) – Australian Shepherd
She very seriously guards “her” farm and keeps an eye on all animal
movement! Agility training also keeps her busy, especially in the
winter.
Sadie – senior cat
At 15 years plus, Sadie is now semi-retired, but still on constant
mouse patrol.
Miss Murphy – rat terrier
Murphy came to us wearing a pink collar and with painted nails. She
now wears fleece and flannel in the winter and has farm-dog “attitude”!
Jakota (aka Jak ) – Paint/Percheron
Jak is wonderful – smart, so willing to please, steady as a rock and
yet has that bit of spunk that makes riding him so much fun! He (and
Nadine) have done well in Training Level Dressage, but he is at his
best on our hilly farm trails.
Paco – a bit of everything?
Paco was a charity case that won Steve’s heart when we went to look
at him. Now the farm “oldster” he is mostly a pasture pet that has a
knack for getting into trouble!

Steve & Nadine
Well, here we are in our everyday-farm-attire with the alpacas!
(Thank you Di for the photo!) And we thank you for taking the time to
look at our website. We feel that Hickory Wind Farm is quite wonderful
and hope that we will have the chance to show you around.
